You need:

* A Sentry [account](https://sentry.io/signup/) and [project](https://docs.sentry.io/product/projects.md)
* Your application up and running
* Ember.js version `4.0.0` or above

Run the command for your preferred package manager to add the Sentry SDK to your application:

### [Initialize the SDK](https://docs.sentry.io/platforms/javascript/guides/ember.md#initialize-the-sdk)

Initializing the Sentry SDK enables core features such as Error Monitoring, Logs, and Application Metrics by default. While Sentry automatically reports errors, you'll need to send logs and metrics manually, as you'll learn further down.

Choose additional features you want to configure, and this guide will show you how:

Configuration should happen as early as possible in your application's lifecycle. Add the following to your `app/app.js` file:

### [Add Readable Stack Traces With Source Maps (Optional)](https://docs.sentry.io/platforms/javascript/guides/ember.md#add-readable-stack-traces-with-source-maps-optional)

The stack traces in your Sentry errors probably won't look like your actual code without unminifying them. To fix this, upload your source maps to Sentry. The easiest way to do this is by using the Sentry Wizard.

### [Avoid Ad Blockers With Tunneling (Optional)](https://docs.sentry.io/platforms/javascript/guides/ember.md#avoid-ad-blockers-with-tunneling-optional)

You can prevent ad blockers from blocking Sentry events using tunneling. Use the `tunnel` option in `Sentry.init` to add an API endpoint in your application that forwards Sentry events to Sentry servers.

This will send all events to the `tunnel` endpoint. However, the events need to be parsed and redirected to Sentry, so you'll need to do additional configuration on the server. You can find a detailed explanation on how to do this on our [Troubleshooting page](https://docs.sentry.io/platforms/javascript/guides/ember/troubleshooting.md#using-the-tunnel-option).

### [Control the Data You Send to Sentry (Optional)](https://docs.sentry.io/platforms/javascript/guides/ember.md#control-the-data-you-send-to-sentry-optional)

By default, the SDK sends user identity data (IP address, ID, and similar) and other data like HTTP bodies and URL query parameters. This will give you rich debugging context.

The SDK always filters sensitive values whose keys match a built-in denylist, such as `auth` or `password`, and sends `[Filtered]` instead.

To send less data, turn off the categories you don't need in the `dataCollection` option. For the full list of categories and their defaults, [see the `dataCollection` options](https://docs.sentry.io/platforms/javascript/guides/ember/configuration/options.md#dataCollection).

[Logs](https://docs.sentry.io/platforms/javascript/guides/ember/logs.md) are enabled by default and let you send, view, and query logs from your app within Sentry.

Use `Sentry.logger` to send logs at different levels, such as `info` or `warn`, and attach a message. You can pass any attributes you want and search or filter by them later.

```javascript
// a simple "info" level log
Sentry.logger.info("User example action completed");

// "warn" log with attributes
Sentry.logger.warn("Slow operation detected", {
  operation: "data_fetch",
  duration: 3500,
});

// "error" log with attributes
Sentry.logger.error("Validation failed", {

  reason: "Invalid email",
});
```

[Application Metrics](https://docs.sentry.io/platforms/javascript/guides/ember/metrics.md) are enabled by default and allow you to send, view, and query various metrics from your app.

Use `Sentry.metrics` to send counters, gauges, and distributions from your app to Sentry. You can pass any attributes you want and search or filter by them later.

```javascript
// a simple "count" metric
Sentry.metrics.count("checkout.failed", 1);

// "gauge" metric with one attribute
Sentry.metrics.gauge("time_since_refresh", 4, { unit: "hour" });

// "count" metric with multiple attributes attached
Sentry.metrics.count("api_calls", 1, {
  attributes: {
    endpoint: "/api/orders",
    user_tier: "pro",
    region: "us-west",
    user_id: user.id,
    order_id: order.id,
  },

```

To verify that Sentry captures errors and creates issues in your Sentry project, add the following test button to one of your templates, which will trigger an error that Sentry will capture when you click it.

##### Important

Errors triggered from within your browser's developer tools (like the browser console) are sandboxed, so they will not trigger Sentry's error monitoring.

Next, add the corresponding action to your controller or component.

Open the page in a browser and click the button to trigger a frontend error.

To test your tracing configuration, update the previous code snippet to start a trace to measure the time it takes to execute your code. Then, open the page in a browser and click the button to trigger a frontend error and a trace.
